Renewable & Sustainable Energy Consultancy

In 2024, Our Footprints was asked to fulfil the Project Management role for the South Fambridge Solar Farm.

The project is located 3 kilometres northeast of Hockley, on 70 hectares of low-grade agricultural land. This appointment was through BayWa r.e. UK Limited who acted as the EPC for the project and OFP integrated with their inhouse team.

The 52.5 MW solar farm included the building of a grid-connected substation, which was successfully energised in October 2025. When fully operational, the solar scheme will produce enough energy to power about 15,000 homes with a biodiversity habitat gain of 142%.

Our Footprints provided end-to-end technical and management oversight, our key responsibilities included:

  • Construction Programme Management
  • Risk and Compliance Oversight
  • Quality Assurance and Technical Reviews
  • Stakeholder and Interface Management
  • Health, Safety & Environmental Guidance and Audits
  • Reporting and Documentation

One of the most distinctive aspects of the project was the deployment of 20,000 PV modules on a pilot mounting structure, forming part of a total installation of 80,000 modules. This pilot phase was critical for validating installation techniques against UK standards.

Our construction manager onsite ensured installation techniques adopted for the pilot structure met UK standards by facilitating communication and technical queries between the contractor, client and the suppliers.

The OFP team was responsible for overseeing rigorous quality checks to confirm all modules arrived damage-free and ready for installation. This proactive approach minimized delays and safeguarded the integrity of the entire solar array.

The South Fambridge Solar Farm exemplifies how renewable energy projects can combine engineering excellence, environmental stewardship, and stakeholder collaboration. By delivering robust project governance and technical assurance, Our Footprints helped transform a vision into reality that will power thousands of homes and enhance local biodiversity.

We are delighted to report the project was successfully delivered on schedule and within budget!
